There was a bumper turnout in the student union elections held on Friday in Jawahar Lal Nehru University. Due to voters being aware, a record 73 percent voting took place. This is about five percent more than last time. Science school students showed more interest in voting. On the other hand, after the voting, ABVP has demanded from the JNU Students Union Election Committee to make public three questions on the ballot paper. These include the total number of ballot papers, how many were used and how many were destroyed.

Giving information about voting on Friday night, JNU Students Union Election Committee President Shailendra said that there were a total of 7751 voters. Of these, about 73 percent participated in the voting. Elections were to begin at 9 am in the JNU campus, but they were delayed by two hours at 11 am. After this, voting ended at seven o’clock instead of five o’clock in the evening.

In fact, the nomination of Swati Singh, the Left Alliance’s secretary candidate, was canceled by the JNU Grievance Redressal Committee due to her being found guilty in old cases. In such a situation, the election committee had to remove Swati Singh’s name from the ballot paper. Therefore there was a delay of two hours in the start of voting. The counting of votes through ballot paper started at around 11 pm on Friday night. The final results may come late Saturday night or Sunday.
